The Decan Atlas
The 36 Faces of the Zodiac
Every sign of the zodiac divides into three faces of ten degrees each — the decans, an order older than the horoscope itself. The old books gave each face an image, a planetary ruler and two watching angels; the Golden Dawn bound each one to a small card of the tarot. Here are all thirty-six, computed against the real sky.
New to this? A decan (the grimoires say “face”) is simply a third of a zodiac sign — ten degrees of the circle the Sun, Moon and planets walk. Because the sky is always somewhere, some face is always lit: the Atlas marks where the Sun and Moon stand at this hour.
